The garden measures about 25 m x 10 m. It contains only 15 rocks and white gravel.

Kyoyochi pond

The pond was created in the 20th Century. Ryoanji was generally know as Oshidorodera (the temple of the mandarin duck) due to population of mandarin ducks that where visible here.
